a quickie with my doctor
i went to the doctor today just to talk to him and let him check on my blood pressure. and you know, it was a little rushed. i am still a little in shock that they a) don't need to re-confirm that you are actually pregnant (what if it WAN ovarian cancer???), and b) don't really want to see you till you are 8 or 9 weeks along. as i told the scheduler chick--i want to see him even if he doesn't want to see me. i was actually glad that i had an issue like the BP so there was a valid reason to go in. i asked my questions--it seemed to shock him that i had some--and got some ok answers. so far, i think my friend alyce is a way better resource than the actual doctor. (to be fair, alyce is a health care professional and DOES know what she's talking about!) he didn't really have any books to recommend (seriously!), and the only thing i learned that i didn't know is that it apparently IS ok to dye my hair tomorrow--i thought it wasn't. i still might not. anyway. the bottom line is that i am now of the opinion that the doctors rely way to much on us patients doing our own research, and that the insurance companies have failed us and no longer realize that a mental reason to see a doctor is sometimes just as much of a real need as a physical reason. peace of mind goes a long way.

you know, it's kinda funny now ... how you had talked about the number 38 ... not a prime number, etc ... somewhat uneventful ... boy, things are different now!
